Dune Awakening hit a new milestone over the weekend, pulling in nearly 190,000 players at once on Steam and setting a record for the game.

Dune Awakening just had a huge weekend on Steam. According to SteamDB, the game reached a peak of 189,333 concurrent players, making it the highest recorded player count for the game so far, and a major win for Funcom’s survival MMO.

The game is based on the iconic Dune universe, but takes its own approach, putting players in an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides never existed. Instead of following the story from the books or movies, players are dropped into a massive open world filled with survival challenges, political tension, and the constant threat of sandworms.

Reaching nearly 190,000 concurrent players puts Dune Awakening in the same territory as some of Steam’s most-played titles over the weekend. It’s a strong sign that there’s a lot of interest in the game and that players are sticking around to see what the world of Arrakis has to offer.

This game’s launch currently only includes PC, but the full console launch is planned for next year. If this early momentum continues, Dune Awakening could be one of the breakout success stories of 2025.

Funcom hasn’t officially commented on the milestone yet, but it’s clear that the game is off to a strong start, and it’s only just beginning.
